Houston Grand Opera presents Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, one of the artform’s most popular and beloved operas. At her wedding to Lieutenant B. F. Pinkerton (Nathaniel Peake) to the Geisha Cio-Cio-San (Ana Maria Martinez) promises to be his for life; just three years later, abandoned and on the verge of poverty, she and her young son wait with fierce hope for his return.

Based upon the new production originted by the Tony Award-winning creative team of director Michael Grandage (Red – Broadway 2010; Hamlet – Broadway 2009) and designer Christopher Oram, the production draws its inspiration from traditional Japanese art.

Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. Please note that lawn chairs must be placed on the left side of the hill. Sit on the right side of the hill on your picnic blanket. No glass containers of any kind are allowed.

Other places to visit and things to do in Hermann Park include The Houston Zoo, pedal boats, Train Ride, Golf Course, Museum of Natural Science (Planetarium and IMAX), Houston Garden Center, Japanese Garden, Children’s playground, Marvin Taylor Exercise Loop.
